A hoax e-mail claiming that canola oil is toxic is again being distributed across the country, using a fake electronic name and address that makes the e-mail appear to have originated from the Faculty of Health Sciences at UCT. This e-mail is not genuine, the “facts” it discusses have no basis, and the e-mail and address are not connected to any office at UCT.
Hoax e-mails about canola oil have been circulating in South Africa for at least nine years. The UCT Health Sciences Faculty condemns this hoax in the strongest possible terms and we urge anyone who receives this e-mail to delete it immediately and not to forward it to anyone else.
